How to trade on football markets on a betting exchange

WUBT interview

I was contacted by John and Lee at Juice Storm  and WUBT radio with a view to being interviewed about my Wizardgold activities.

Of course I was delighted to go on their radio show and talk about my stuff. John otherwise known as Man of Mystery on Betfair asked  me a few questions and basically I chatted about trading the unders and using the Football Cash Generator.

Have a listen anyway and enjoy….

Check this video I have made to show how to use Betdaq Assistant with the Betdaq under 2.5 goals market. I did this with the Southend vs Chelsea game. I don’t really recommend using FA Cup games for trading but it worked out OK anyway. I even timed the greening up really well a couple of minutes before the first goal was scored.

I have been trying out the Betdaq Assistant software from Gruss and I am very pleased with it. It has been created using Adobe Air which makes it cross platform. Seeing as I am a Mac user this is the icing on the cake with a cherry on top for me. You can also use it on Linux and even Windows if you are crazy enough to use Windows.

I have been trying out ZedBet and I have to say that so far I have been impressed. I sent money in via a bank transfer and it got there quickly and I found the site to be easy to use when looking for the market I was interested in.

More important is getting money out when you win and is looking like that will be just as quick. I sent in the withdrawal request email. No online forms on the ZedBet web site just send in the information they request. and I got a reply back within minutes to say that the details had been sent to the payment department and I will be paid as quickly as possible.

They will pay out for free once per month which is good. I have seen this policy on other betting sites also. I will let you know when the money arrives. Now it is Thursday and nearly midnight. I was surprised to get confirmation of the withdraw so quickly as it is so late. I thought that I would get an email back in the morning. Well done ZedBet.

The other good thing to mention is that they have a welcome bonus at the moment and it is up to 100 Euro. Not bad at all. I got lucky with my first bet which won for me, and then I got the bonus of 100 Euro which sadly lost. I had a bet on Slavia Prague playing at home and I thought they might get revenge in a home game as they lost in Hamburg.

As part of the run up to the Euro 2008 the teams are playing friendlies to get themselves in trim and to work things out. I set up a matched bet today on the France game because I set up new accounts and had free bets to use up. I backed the correct score of 1 – 0 with €31.79 @ odds of 6.5 for France at Will Hill and laid it off at Betfair odds of 6.8.

With the higher odds I get more of the money into my Betfair account if the trade works that way. There were no good odds for me on the draw which I often go with so I looked around some more. I think I am getting about 75% of my free money from this. Won’t be so good if the scoreline ends up 1 – 0 though but I should be alright France have a good enough team to score a couple and then again Colombia could put one in the net too.

It is nil nil and the Russians are camped in the Rangers half. Just before half time there was a call for a penalty and Rangers were very luck for the ref not to give it.

Still looks like Zenit will win the game barring some strange bit of luck going the direction of Rangers. Well that could happen with the way that Rangers have made it to the Final in the first place.
Darchville still looks like he could be dangerous for Rangers but only if the rest of the team can get the ball to him and then give him some support.

As far as the game plan for Rangers it is going the way they expected. Zenit are the better team but Rangers are defending well. I would like Zenit to win this one. It would work out very nice for me with the matched betting. I will still make money if it goes the other way or is a draw but why not hope for the easy option.

I got to the game late. I had thought about working the under 2.5 goals market, but I didn’t fancy it with 25 minutes gone. I would have had to put on a larger amount of money with the odds as they were by then. It ended 0-0 but I didn’t know that when I looked at the game.

I didn’t even do any matched betting yesterday. I would have but I have no money in Moneybookers and I could move money out of Betfair to it either. Seems I have to move the Paypal money out first. A bit annoying, that is. Why shouldn’t I get my money out whichever way I like. I have put money in recently with Moneybookers.

I saw that one of the places that I can still have a new account take the Moneybookers. I will do it later.

Just looked in to see how the game is going on SoccerStats and when I first looked in Ipswich were in front by a goal. I would prefer them to lose of draw. Then within a minute of me looking Barnsley pulled on back. The goals went in at 20 minutes and 27 minutes. Now it is half time anyway and if Ipswich win I will have to match the bets on Betdaq tomorrow with WBX. Thats OK too because it would take me closer to another free tenner bet on WBX. They give one of those every time you win or lose £200 up to 22 of them. Quite a lot of free cash really.

Good news – Barnsley won 4 -1 and all the cash is in Betfair. Nice one.

Last night I traded on the unders on Betfair in the Champions league and I recorded some of the action. I should have recorded more but I was just busy concentrating on making money. Before the games started I have greened up halfway to the 1% profit target for the day. When the games started I put in more trades and let them green up too. I made about 2.5% in the end and I was able to add a little to that total by putting in a late bet on the under 2.5 goals at about 83 minutes on the Arsenal game which was at nil nil, and stayed that way to the end. I traded on all of the games and made varying amounts. The game with less liquidity was the Sevilla game so I traded less on that one.

The way I worked it was to trade at the begining of the game and have my 1% profit in the bag, then add to it after a goal was scored. Fortunately the second goal in the Celtic vs Barcelona game was very quick and so I didn’t get caught out by it. I like to move to the under 3.5 goals to do the next trade if there is enough money on the market, nice to have a couple of goals safety for the trading. It is great to be able to set up trades on all 4 games and see them in the monitored markets list with the latest odds displayed along with all the other necessary information, like Last traded price, net position, whether I have unmatched bets and the current profit or loss.

I will be editing the recording of BinarySoft BDI that I made with live bets Thursday late in the day or on Friday as I have decided to go to Barcelona for the day. I don’t go there too often as I am not keen on big cities too much. But there is an art shop I want to visit and also a book shop, I am keen to buy myself a couple of good sketch books, and get back into drawing again. It has been too long since I was drawing things that’s for sure.

Even though I like BinarySoft BDI I still use BetAngel because it is the professionals choice if you want to do more than trade with a ladder interface. In BetAngel you can set up just about any scenario for making money including setting yourself as the bookmaker. BetAngel even works with Excel spreadsheet so you can have some really sophisticated triggered betting.

Due to the day out I will not get time to follow up on the 80/20 tips on the horses either. Today I was busy editing the Wizardcast 31 in which I showed some of the basic functions of BinarySoft BDI betting software. I like the software because it works native on my Mac and it has a full ladder for trading. It does take a little getting used to at first due to the binary nature of how it works and the odds being represented by nought to one hundred, instead of the Betfair odds. In this latest version you can see the equivalent Betfair odds as a tooltip when your hover over the Binary odds though and that makes it easier to work.

With BinarySoft BDI the closer you get to the event being realised the closer you get to 100. So if you buy a position on the under 2.5 goals , which is the same as a back bet, at binary 50 which is roughly 2.00 in Betfair odds, the closer the odds get to 100 the closer you are to winning the bet. You can buy at 56 (1.79) and sell at 58 (1.72) to make a profit trading in and out.

I thought it was high time that there was a video showing how this software works. The concept is different in that instead of using the Betfair odds 1.87 or 3.45 or something like that, you have zero to one hundred. The closer you get to 100 the closer you are to the event happening. 99 for example would be equivalent to 1.01 in Betfair odds.

With trading you would buy at 55 for example and sell at 56 or higher to make money on the trade. Or you could sell at 66 and buy at 65 or lower to make money. It just depends on which way the money is going. For me at the start of a football game the odds head down or come in (in Betfair terms) and with BinarySoft the number goes up.

What I like to do is to buy at the start of a game and take my profit at 5 or 10 minutes into the game. I even think it is a good idea to set the sell to take just a couple of ticks of profit and get out quickly. Maybe it seems a little strange just reading about the concept, it took me a while to get my head around it, but once you see it in action you will understand it better and see the logic in it.

Successful trading last night using BetAngel. I put in my first trade in the Spurs game after the first goal. I traded until I had about half of my target 1% of my betting bank and greened up. Then I moved to the under 3.5 goals market to set up a new trade.

I also got a trade going on the Bolton game and did the same and then greened up. Decided to grab a bit more from trading on the Benfica vs Nurnberg. I did this one as it was quite late in the game and quite likely that it would stay under 2.5 goals.

In the end I made 2.28% profit on the betting bank which was good going and safe too.

Another day yesterday with a small loss 0.32 points which for the 20 euro bets I am working with equals €7.33 after the commission is taken into account. We have to remember that this is a long term propostion and 2 days with a small loss is not the end of the world. What I have done also is to sign up for the 7 day free trial of the tips from 80-20 itself and will look at it separate to see how it works out with profits. I looked into the January and February stats for their tips and did a spreadsheet to work out how the money would have worked out with my stake size.

By my calculations it took them two and half days to get into profit in January and the rest of the month was just a gradual growth of the betting bank. The day one was minus 46 euro and the day two was minus 2.76 euro and day three saw a profit of €57.56. During the month the daily profit varied between minus 140 and plus 137 Euro and the final tally for the month was a profit of €404. Now you have to bear in mind that this is an approximate figure because I could have gone into the bettiing exchange at a different time of day and gor different odds completely. Perhaps better, perhaps worse odds. I expect we would not be too far out though.

With my direct and live test of the numbers I am still in profit after 3 days of testing by €146 and it is still too early to say if it will be a total success for the month. Looking very promising though. Also today I have checked the prices in Betdaq instead of Betfair for the Racing place tips and Betfair for the 80-20 tips.
